welcome to between two weeners!
I'm by no means an expert. Or a nutritionist for people, let alone for dogs. What I am is a mom to two mini doxies who I love with all of my heart. My only goal is to keep them around with me as long as possible. For me, in order to do that, is to keep them as healthy as I can. I took a journey from commercial food to homemade food and I wanted to share it with others. Others who, like I was initially, may be nervous to try this for fear they are hurting their beloved pets.
As with many of you, I've been concerned with the illness and death associated with commercial dog foods and treats. With this concern came research on the best ways to make sure I was making the right choices for my dogs. After all, they rely completely on me for their care and nourishment, I have an obligation to make sure that those choices are the best available. In my quest to learn as much as possible, I made the educated decision to make my dog's food using human ingredients and controlling completely what I put in their bowls.
I have done much research to land where I have, and it's a place I am comfortable. I have two mini doxies, Dudley who is 16.5 years old, and Marvin, my rescue boy who is about 5ish. Both are healthy, happy, and at appropriate weights. They're also both incredibly spoiled and well adjusted. I like to think I have something to do with it.
The purpose of this blog is to share with you all the recipes I try, as well as some interesting articles I come across. To let you know what has worked for my two boys, to let you know what hasn't. To offer suggestions to healthier alternatives for your beloved pets. I have no degree in pet nutrition, I only know what works for me. I encourage anyone who reads this to consult with your vets before you do ANYTHING different to their routines. Make sure they have been tested for allergies and there are no health concerns you should be aware of before trying any alterations to their diets. At the end of it all, we're all in this for the same goal.....to keep our pets healthy, happy, and in our lives for as long as we possibly can.
