- 1.5lbs of bottom round beef (on sale for $3.99/lb) should make about 2.5 cups of protein (after being put in the food processor)
- 2 cups of boiled sweet potatoes
- 1.5 cups of string beans
Cook the string beans, put them through the food processor and blend them so they're mushy. do the same to the cooked sweet potatoes. Put the sweet potatoes and string beans in the container you'll store the food in and mix them together.
Then add 1 teaspoon of ground up egg shells for calcium. Cook the beef to a medium temp in a tablespoon of coconut oil, and put that through the food processor. Once cooked, add that to the potato/green bean mixture.
I mix it all together into a consistency of what you would find in canned dog food.
You can substitute any vegetable with this recipe you think your dog would enjoy. corn is an option, but I would probably use a corn/pea/green bean medley and avoid doing just corn as the vegetable. While corn in a dog food will not harm your dog, it has little nutritional value.
You can use fresh veggies, canned veggies (just look at the sodium content) or frozen veggies. There are some veggies you will need to cook down, so that your dog gets the most nutritional value from them, and there are others you don't need to cook down as much. I will find a link for that and add it to the info page.
I tend to buy a frozen box of veggies for $1 in the store and use that. I use spinach, carrots, peas, brussel sprouts, and broccoli. I also use the string beans from Trader Joe's. (more on the great products you can use as treats from TJ's in a later post!)
