Ingredients:
2 15 ounce cans of Chub (or Jack) Mackerel ($1.62/each at Wal Mart)
1 15 ounce package or pumpkin (NOT pie filling, just plain old pumpkin, the only listed ingredient should be pumpkin!) ($1.99 at my local organic market, I used organic pumpkin, you don't have to.)
1.5 cups of cooked steel oats (An entire package was$2.99 at Target, and I used organic, but you don't have to.)
I stirred the oats and pumpkin together in a bowl, added the calcium and the powdered vitamins until completely combined.
Empty one can including the oil and water, and then the meat from the other can in a bowl. Mash up, leaving some chunks of fish. You will see bones, they are cooked down and okay for the dogs to eat, and provide great calcium. I don't recommend that you use the liquid from both cans, as your food will be too watery. The starch in the recipe should absorb a lot of the oil from one can, so you should be good. Stir everything together, this food will have the consistency of a canned food, don't be alarmed. When you use canned fish like this, or salmon, you do not have to add any fish oils or sardines.
The dogs LOVE this food and gobble it up! As with all of the recipes on this page, you can substitute any of the veggies and the starches based on what you have on hand or your dog's preference and nutritional needs.
